Puppies

If you are considering a Berkeley Cavalier puppy, we are flattered. We know that you have done your research, and have learned that we work
very hard to breed and raise pups that are gentle, social, fun and loving.
At Berkeley Cavaliers we breed one to two litters per year, focusing on quality, not quantity. Our goal is to improve upon our breed in
soundness, breed type and health and to maintain the wonderful temperament that allows our dogs to also become pet therapy dogs as
well as active members of our family. One of the major health opportunities we aim for is longevity in our dogs; we want them around
as long as possible. Our pedigree line has long living dogs in it, the average age is 13 with Cavaliers from Australia, New Zealand, and
England behind them as well as US bred Cavaliers. Some of the most well-known and top Cavaliers from Elvenhome (Australia), Prestonville
(New Zealand), Trefoil (USA) and Hollambrie (England) are behind our
pups. We have health tests done for hearts annually on all of our
breeding dogs by board certified veterinary cardiologists as well as
all of our dogs have annual well checks by our vet.
Our pups are raised in our home and not in a kennel, and handled and played with every day of their first 80 days with us. By the time you get a Berkeley puppy, he or she has been exposed to all types of surfaces, noises, and sights. Your pup has been on a leash to walk. Your pup has been for rides in the car and walks through the fields and woods. Your new pup has been on solid food for at least 4 weeks, and been wormed and vaccinated appropriate for his or her age. Your pup has also been, or is in the process, of being crate trained.
When it comes to choosing the perfect pet for your family we use the same diligence as in our breeding program. Our goal is matching your family with the perfect Cavalier partner for years of family happiness. We feel our puppies are special, and want their new homes to be special. Our pups will need love and attention and training. Pups do not "settle down" as they get older, they must be taught correct behaviors and learn to be good citizens and members of the family. You must be willing to devote a substantial number of hours to caring for and training your new pup, or arrange to have the dog trained.
If you are interested please contact us for a questionnaire that will give you an idea of some things we consider important in determining which of our pups go to your home. There are no right or wrong answers. Many of the questions are intended to provoke you into thinking about how you will handle certain issues related to your pup. Others are to aid in your pup's selection from the litter.
Once we have received and reviewed your questionnaire, we will be in touch with you to discuss the choice of a litter, and puppy that will be perfect for you. Thank you for considering Berkeley Cavaliers!
